I am totally unsure if this is the right place to post this, and I am also unsure how many it will help, so please feel free to move this if it would be better placed elsewhere. I would like as many as possible to see this.
To my knowledge there are least 6 London boroughs that are running a warmth and comfort scheme. It for householders who own their own home or rent it from a private landlord. It offers a range of ways to make your home energy efficient for FREE, including upgrading and installing central heating systems, cavity wall insulation and loft insulation. You need to be receiving income related benefits to qualify.
Anyone interested is visited by an engineer from British Gas who will assess whether their property fails to reach the Decent Homes Standard set by the Government in 2004. If the house falls below this standard on insulation or heating it will qualify.
If you think you qualify, ring the British Gas freephone number below. You have nothing to lose. To my knowledge, this is not age restricted.
To check which boroughs are participating and for a FREE survey for those that are, telephone 0800 652 0782.

There is also a £300 rebate which you may be eligible for if you are not eligible for the full grant0 -
