Salary is paid direct into bank via BACS and any cheques/cash I wish to pay in I send in post (cheques) to both First Direct and Smile and cash, pay cash into SMILE via Post Office and FIRST DIRECT can pay cash/cheques etc. into any branch of HSBC which is First Direct's parent bank.

Also have a LLoyds TSB Scotland bank a/c and I use BACS transfers for that too but have once paid a cheque into a branch in Inverness.

I find Internet banking invaluable, any time of day or night, I can see what goes on with my money with any of the 3 accounts and all operate phone banking too.

I can recommend all three banks.

I sure hope not! Seems to me there are less and less branches as every week goes by! With the popularity and ease of internet banking, I don't really see a place for high street brances anymore. Obviously, neither do the banks as they are closing them so rapidly.

I wondered what they used to use banks for. I asked the bar staff at ours and they couldn't remember. Thanks.

    Lol!

I go to the bank for paying in cheques and cash - I don't really see there's much choice, really. Posting them in would take longer, and the post office (even if I could) has a longer queue and no machine!
