Simple DVD Recorder

My 86 year old mother wants to get a DVD recorder that is simple to use. I have a Virgin V+ box which is really easy but have no experience of recorders.

She would like something that she could set up to record her favourite programmes regularly without having to reset each day or each week. She wants a DVD format as she would like to send some DVD,s to my daughter who is emigrating to Hawaii in March.

If any of you good people could give me the benefit of your advice and/or experience I would be very grateful.

I think you probably could do with an HD-DVD recorder (incorporates a hard drive. If she can get Freeview then anything with a built in EPG would be the best bet. It would work along the same lines as your V+ box in so much as you highlight a programme to record it. Certainly on my Pioneer you can set it record regularly at the same time etc. Then to replay programes simply search for title. This avoids having to constantly erase/swap DVDs etc.
