Memory Problem

Ahhh right so the bigger the page file the better it is for running windows and various programs? my hard drive is 33.2gb and i have 23gb of free space is it worth me setting it higher than what i have previously stated?

Yes, it is better for windows. As you have more than 20GB freespace, I would say setting the minimum size to 1000mb and the maximum to 2000mb would be more than sufficient. Most of the time windows will only ever use the minimum (in this case 1000mb) unless you have loads of programmes or memory hungry programmes running.
After you set the minimum/maximum size you will need to reset your computer for changes to take affect. After you have done this go back to the pagefile details and ensure that the 'currently allocated' size states 1000MB.
The reason for this is that on numerous occasions when I have built computer and set their pagefile to 1000mb, I noticed that windows still hasn't set the pagefile that big. What I have to do then is click on the option for no paging file and reboot windows and then again click on custom size and set the size as before and reboot again - it then generally sets the pagefile to the size you requested. I'm not sure why this needs to be done but I assume its a small 'bug' in windows.
Also, can you after rebooting and without loading anything extra from what windows loads, do Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Task Manager and at the bottom of the Task Manager window it states how much your CPU usage (in %) is. Can you monitor this and whilst listing your processes try and notice if any process has a high CPU usage. It is best to do this just after rebooting and without loading any extra programmes to get a more accurate view of your CPU usage during idle time.0 -
Sorry BBB_uk
so i adjust the page size filing and then list the processes and note whether any of them are using a high amount of CPU Usage? Does it list the percentage by the side of the processes or do i go to the next tab to display how much each is taken of CPU usage in the taslk manager?
Much appreciated on ur help BBB_uk as i would never have found out so much if it wasnt for u
Cheers mate

Sorry I should have been more clearer. If you adjust the pagefile first, reboot and check that it has taken affect (ie currently allocated states 1000mb). If not, select No pagefile and reboot and then adjust pagefile again and finally reboot. At this time it should now display the currently allocated pagefile size of 1000mb.
After the above is done and ensuring nothing is running (other than what normally starts during boot-up), do Ctrl-Alt-Del and click on the process tab. Each process should list its individual CPU usage and at the bottom of the task manager window it lists the total CPU usage along with how many processes are actually running. If the individual CPU usage - two digits column represented from 00 to 99 - the 99 being 100% cpu usage for that specific process isn't displayed then click on 'View', then 'Select Columns'. Here ensure 'CPU Usage', CPU Time', 'Memory Usage' and 'Peak Memory Usage' are all ticked. This then gives an idea of the CPU usage and the memory used by each process and the maximum memory used by each process since computer was started.0 -
excellent
will give this a go when i get home tonite. hopefully it will give a bit more insight as to why it a bit slow many thanks BBB_uk will let u know the results.
