Credit card transfers...using foreign currency?

in Credit cards
Just for background, I'm an American living in the UK, so I have credit on both sides of the pond. I can also use my parent's as a US address in which to register bank accounts, etc.
Reading Martin's new article on effectively getting a personal 'loan' via credit card, I was wondering if this could work going from pounds to dollars, as well.
Now, I KNOW the exchange rate is really crap right now, but fact is I have SHINING credit in the US and only okay (mostly due to being an immigrant) credit here in the UK.
Do you think it would work to try and transfer money via the Egg Money --> US credit card --> UK bank account way? I'm sure there'd be some foreign currency conversion fees along the way, but I'm willing to accept that as it's STILL better rates than what I can get on a credit card in the UK.
Just curious if anyone's done this before...or transferred a balance off a UK credit card to a US one. I can get around $5000 credit limits with good rates in the US, but only really !!!! £500 here...I've got 1 UK credit card here and every subsequent application has now failed b/c I think they don't like me being an immigrant.

No one seems to have done this before? Well, I guess it all depends on whether I can get the Egg Money card anyway...am sending off the paperwork tomorrow (they require siggies from me, since I'm a "U.S. person", so we shall see.top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne
