Upgrading Hard Disk on Sky HD Box

Hi

I want to upgrade the hard disk capacity on my Sky HD box from 300GB to 500 GB and was thinking of buying one of these upgrade kits for £106 delivered:

http://www.xtendedplay.co.uk/skyhd-high-definition-hard-drive-upgrade-kit-500gb-prodid-4.html?osCsid=8af6f74dbb157d6058eeb94ed54ccb50

But after doing a bit of web research, I might able to save some cash by purchasing the 500GB Western Digital WD500AAKS hard disk from ebuyer for £65 (which is what the above kit contains)....however few questions:

1) I believe i will have to patch it with hitachi firmware (Feature Tool V2.08?) to reduce disk noise by creating a floppy boot disk....but how do i connect the hard disk to my desktop pc? can i connect it via USB or does my desktop have to be opened up and then the hard disk installed? how easy is to install and do i need to install any further drivers to get it working? will this hard disk have to replace my current hard disk (temporarily) to get it patched? sorry for asking dumb questions, i have never had a new hard disk installed before.

2) If i buy the above kit, its comes with a with special tool...yet according to:
http://www.morlocks.co.uk/disc-change-hd.htm
you don't need any special tool...could someone please clarify?

I would really appreciate your help, as i could probably save about £40+ quid by buying from Ebuyer and patching it myself rather than buying the above kit.

Cheers :)

Ive done it with a normal Sky+ box, but not an HD, so I dont think I can help much.

You will need to connect the drive to your PC I believe. You can use Copy+ to copy your programmes over to the new drive, and as I remember, it also formats the drive into a Sky file system. I dont believe that you will need any 'special tools'. Its just a way to justify their package.

There should be plenty of info here.
