Hi, has anyone been to portaventura?? If so whats it like? We are looking to book for sometime in the school summer hols so I would imagine it is going to be very expensive. So I thought I would ask you guys for your experiences and whether it is worth the money or whether you have any other suggestions. There are two adults and one eleven year old. We like to be busy and do not like just sitting around.
Many thanks
Many thanks
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....

I spent a week at the PortAventura hotel last August and five days there over the New Year with the other half. We love the place, it has an air of quality about it. The resort has three hotels and they are quite pricey, more so than the hotels in Salou, but the entrace fee to the park is included. The PortAventura hotel has a private entrance direct into the park. The other two hotels are a short 10 minute walk to the park entrance.
We found the park superb with some great thrill rides and some really good shows and lots for children to do. In the peak summer months you also get one day at their water park, outside of this you get unlimited access I believe but it is worth checking their website. They also through in free entry to their beach resort which is very good.
I found staying in one of the PortAventura's hotel so much better than the rest of the hotels in Salou especially in August as the pool area wasn't anywhere near as rammed with people. The food was also quite good, it's done in a buffet style all you can eat and is very varied.
Alternatively you can save some money by booking a hotel in Salou and taking the regular road train service to the park. For me though Salou is a little downmarket, Cambrils the next resort along looked much better.
If you like getting out and about there is a small train stop for PortAventura that will get you into Barcelona for a day trip. Be warned though the train is packed to the rafters and it's normally standing room only for an hour and a half.

totally fab..... went in July, don't think I would have fancied the park during the day due to the heat/queues, I went in the eve and the queues were non existent, but still very warm, but I only paid for 1 day into water park and one eve into theme park i wished we had done more than that, the pool is fab and the theme parks fireworks display at the close of the eve is spectacular...
hope you have a great time if you go x
We stayed at the Port Salou Hotel, 10 mins walk to Salou and very clean and nice helpful staff 1/2 board, but to be fair thought the food was a bit rubbish....2007 £1749

2009 JanMasscara £7.00 Feb megcabot books x 2 £20 XFactor tkts x 2 £58.00 (couldn't go though as they only phoned on day :-( ) foundation £7.99
