A night in Calais - but cheapy cheapy! Help!

Hello there!

Me and my mate want to go over to Calais for the night, possibly next weekend, preferably on the Saturday night.

Thing is, everything seems so expensive! We were looking at Eurostar on foot, and it costs about £200 total which is crap, considering we're both students on a shoestring :(

The ferry seems OK, but the thing is, how would we get to Dover - we can either go from Southend or London, we're flexible with the times (though the more time in France, the better) but we're pretty stuck as to how to do it cheaply.

I know it's a lot to ask - but has anyone got any advice?

Thank you,
Jaymes

You could always do an "overnighter" on Eurotunnel - a car and up to 4 people friday to saturday or saturday to sunday for £39. I usually do this a couple of times a year to load up with Wine in Tesco's at Cite Europe. I'm going on one this Friday and staying at Wimereux for the night. A day by the seaside, a nice dinner, then up to Tesco's (on Saturday) for my booze then home!

...that's a good idea, but we're gonna try and avoid driving if we can simply because my mate isn't too confident driving on the French roads - and I'm liable to hysteria ;)

If he can drive to dover then you can get foot passenger rates on a ferry - search on Google and you'll probably get across for a tenner each if you are lucky. You can find cheap accommodation when you get over there but I'd try and book up before going.

And park up in Dover? Is there secure parking? That's a really good idea - hadn't thought of that at all! Thank you :)

If you're planning on staying overnight, I'd recommend the Cottage Hotel (approx £25 per room). It's fairly basic but clean and the food is good. We've stayed there a few times when we've gone for a quick shopping trip.

Don't know if this will help, try

    https://www.hotelformule1.com

roughly 28 euros a night, one double bed, a bunk over it, and a sink and television in room. Showers and toilets are down the corridor in seperate cubicles. Stopped in them a couple of times, and always clean and friendly. There is one in Calais on Av. Charles-de-Gaulle, Chemin de Bernieulles, 62231 COUQUELLES. Apparently near the centre commercial Auchan and Nike Factory store. Although I don't know where in relation to the whole of Calais it is and if you are going to be on foot, if you get what i mean?

If you want an ensuite try,

    https://www.etaphotel.com

they are the next ones up in the chain of accor hotels. Don't know if one in Calais either.

Hope that helps you, and have fun,
