I'm looking to put a paper certificate INTO an account and will probably use lowtrades.com. They charge $75 for this and IIRC the same for issuing a certificate. Not sure if there's any cheaper options for either - I've always found it troublesome to have paper IBM shares.

I'm suprised that brokers in America won't accept certificates in for free.. - thats the common method here.

You may want to give HSBC a call about their InvestDirect Plus account.. they told me once they accepted transfers in of US share certificates.
