Barclays Additions Plus A/C?

Last time I was in the bank I was asked if I wanted to upgrade the joint current ac I have with my other half to the one of the Barclays Additions current accounts. I took some of the info they were giving out and I've finally got round to looking at it. It seems that for a fee of £14.50 a month on my joint current ac I recieve RAC cover (it looks like the full package but I'm going to double check), Worldwide multi-trip travel insurance and some other stuff.
The two I've mentioned are the ones that interest me the most. At the moment I pay about £16 a month for AA cover for myself & my partner, so I'll save money on that anyway, plus the years worldwide travel insurance will save us buying it from somewhere else.
I can't see any catches, but I'm a bit wary of banks. Anyone else here got one of these or any knowledge of these accounts? Are they worth doing? Thanks.

If you shop around I am sure you will find your breakdown cover cheaper, for example I got RAC last year for £29.99 with quidco £20 cash back so it cost £9.99 for a year also holiday insurance I paid for a family of 3 for a week in europe £20 by looking on confused.com
Total £29.99
Bank additions would work out 12 x £14.50 = £174.00
So in my option it's not worth it0 -

I have this account and for me it is cost effective, I have used the breakdown cover several times and it is brill, I also rely on the travel insurance go away about 4 times a year, free credit card cover is very useful, when i lost my purse on holiday last year i called the number and they contacted all my card companies cancelled all the cards and saved a lot of work, Have also had my will written by them for free, and the insurance for electrical items bought on the card is good too.
As some one else said it depends which of the services you use, the monthly cost is more that coverd for me as i have been able to cancel all the other individual items.0 -
Thanks for the replies, I'll have to look into all the individual expesnses and see how it works out.0

Hi
Is there a minimum time you have to commit to this account? Am considering becoming an additions plus customer as we would save on travel insurance and plumbing etc but wasnt sure how long I had to be with them if I ever wanted to cancel or downgrade?:j BABY A :j0 -

I work for barclays (or at least I do until friday as i'm crossing the boarder to a different high st bank)
I sold these account (sorry to use the word 'sold' but no matter how you do it, it's selling! and there is no contract for having the additions, additions plus or first additions account) but there's no impact to you so don't worry-it is a good account if you use all the benefits so go for it if youre happy!Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!

ihave rac cover with the additions plus account and have experinced may problems. i brokedown on the 18/06/08 in cambridge i phoned the rac and they said that they couldnt find me on the system, they then found me and said some one would be with me within the hour and it would be an rac van.however when the recovery man turned up it wasnt the rac it was a contractor the said the rac didnt work 24hrs. i then asked how much it was cost to get home and they spoke to the rac and they said it would cost £152.75 to get me home but i pay for my cover i was shocked. however my mum paid the moneyon her card to get us home as it was 1 in the morning. the next da i phoned the rac and asked why i was charged and they said that they couldnt find me again. i then contacted barclaysand they said i was on the system and the rac had to reimburse me i am in the process of claim the money back. we then asked for the rac to come out and have a look at my car, amazing they found me on the system considering 10 minutes ago i wasnt on there!! the man then came out had a look at my car and said it was the slave cylinder.he then jacked my car up got underneath andsaid he was goin to drain the hydrolic fluid and sum air fom it which he said would sort thr problem. he then added sum green hydrolic fluid to the hydrolic tank. as he works for the rac and said he was a mechanic i didnt question him,he know wot he is doing right??
he then said that the slave valve would need to be replaced,so i phoned the machanic that i use and he picked the car up the next day. he looked under my bonnet and asked what the green fluid was and i told him the rac man had said it was hydrolic fluid,he looked confused and said he had never seen green hydrolic fluid. he the took my car for repair. he brought it back in perfect workin condition. i drove it around for two days with no problem. i then was goin shoping with my 2 year old son thinking the car was fine and safe, but t my amazement my car wouldint go in to gear propley and wen it did it wouldt brake and started jumping i was frightened.i managed to get it parked again and phoned the mechanic,he came straight away,he looked at my car and there was no fault through the part he had replaced but the cluth was sticking he looked again @ the fluid the rac had but in and smelt in,it was perfumed.hydrolic fluid isnt perfumed he said it was either screen washe or anti freeze, which is water based and mixed with oil wold seperate and its running through my master cyclinder through the gear box and back into the clutch. we then phoned the rac and told them wot the rac man had done, they then spoke to my mechanic and said that it would clog up my car and thats why it had done what it did. they then passed me to a manager who wanted a mechanic report and said they would look into the matter. i told them it wasnt good enough and i needed my car as my partner needs it for work and i need it for the school run. they said they wouldnt do anything until they had the report. my partner then said hewould miss out on a days wages and would they reimburse him because it was their error they replied no.they then told me to pay for the car to be fixed and they would look into reimbursing me. i ahvent got the money yo do that and why should i pay for their mistake?? they said they were contacting the rac driver that put the fluid in and were going to get bak to me asap that was 3 o'clock yeaterday afternoon its now 10.20 am the next day and still i havent had a reply.i want to know if anyone could help me as i wish to complian about these situations that hav occured. i want to know who to speak to. i.e is there a company or an ombusedman as they manager i spoke to sally morgan was very rude and would not let me speak to anyone else.
i am disgusted with the service and reply. what am i paying for?? them to charge me to get home when i have cover and to ruin my car. i look forward to responses asap. thank you ashleigh
