    depends on your make/model.
most lappys are not worth the repair of a new screen. screens cost between 100/200 quid.
better to buy a new lappy and sell the old one on ebay. they bring pretty good money for the spares alone.
    Get some gorm.
  • my dell screen cost £80 off ebay, its not oem but fitted and works okay, depends how much the laptop is worth repaired, what is a scrapper for you could be a mender for somebody else, if it's a recent laptop (2000+) sell it for spares or repairs on ebay, could get £100, so imagine keeper after fixing £180 or = to £180 off a new one.

Or as someone else here pointed out on a similar thread a while ago, if you use it in one place all the time, may be cheaper to hook it up to an external monitor, as flatscreens can be got for £90 now.

If your laptop shares a desk with another PC with digital out, you can use a single screen and switch between the two at the press of a button if you choose a monitor with both DVI and VGA input.

Our school's laptops regularly get this - its usually due to damage to the screen. If within warranty, they are returned for replacement (there is nothing even the manufacturer can do to fix it) of the screen or entire laptop. If out of warranty, they are cannibalised for spares and the rest disposed of. The commercial cost of replacing a screen is probably comparable to, if not higher than, a new laptop.
