I have been given an new Ipod Nano 4gb specifically to work with my car. But we aren't sure whether it is suitable. In the handbook it gives a list of Ipods that can be used, but the booklet was published in 2006 and I have a new Nano as of yesterday. It does say Nano's can be used, but have they changedsince 2006?
Problem is if I open the Ipod and its not the right one, I will lose 10% of the purchase price.
Can anyone help or advise me on this.
I don't think the dealer will be able to help, as their knowledge of Ipods will be limited.

The new shorter fatter Nano (the 3rd generation) was released in 2007.
However it has the same sized dock connector as the previous versions, in fact the dock connector on the 3G to 5G Classic iPods, and 1G to 3G Nanos, iPhone and iPod Touch are the same.
It's only the physical side of the devices which are different, so if it needs to slow into a cradle to connect to the "dock connector" that is where you might have an issue.
Also some accessories which control iPods may or may not work correctly with older and newer iPods, it all depends how the software is supported, but it'd be likely that the manufacture of the car link would have a free firmware update if there were any issues anyway.0 -
Would be helpful if you told us what car you have! Do you know anyone else with a nano that you can try first?0

What does the ipod interface in your Golf look like? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

its the shape of the base of an Ipod if that makes sense. My daughters Ipod sits on it, but my other daughter's one does not work. Its a different gb to first daughter0

Most ipod docks use an insert that adapts it to the particular ipod being used.
If yours has one it should just prise out. Apple supply the appropriate adapter with the ipod.

I am the daughter whose iPod "does not fit!" it kind of works, in the fact that it will play but sometimes comes out. Mine is a 20GB Video iPod. I think the Nano will work but I understand my mum's concerns.0

It should work, sounds like the connector is loose if yours sometimes doesn't. Maybe get it checked next time you go for a service. But yes if its a standard dock connector it should work fine.0
