just to encourage anyone who needs financial help at university to apply to schemes like the access to learning fund and other bursaries. apparently up to 20% of eligible students don't apply - so give it a go, the worst thing they can do is say no!

These grants are not backdated in any way are they? They seemed to stop as i started uni and start up a few yrs after i left uni-highly unfair!0

Nah, you can't back date as far as I know. My uni gives the bursary without you having to do anything so I don't think I'm missing any financial support but 20% of students missing out is quite a lot!0

access to learning funds and other bursaries have been in place for many years now.... they are from each institution and not the government so there is no central way of applying for them.... i think you may be confusing them with loans.... it may just be that you didn't know about them but they will have been there!:happyhear0

Mine bursary was given to me without having to do anything and my scholarship was as well. They just sent me a letter a couple of months into term saying what I would be getting from them.0
