I do enjoy enjoy it most of the time.
I like the fact that I will, hopefully, be debt free by the end of this year (if all goes according to plan). Like those already posted 'The Saboteurs' really annoy me ('tis the dentist this month!!!). Have always been a bit of a haggler too so that's nothing new!
I find seeing other people's signatures a great form of encouragement when temptation is wanting me to splash out.Lightbulb moment - August, 2006

I said to another poster that I hoped that this site would teach me to live a wine lifestyle on a value cola budget and thats how I feel. I love the idea of getting my debts paid and if that means a bit of self sacrifiice now then its best to get it over and done with now.
I love getting bargins and I am so pleased that I have learnt to budget and control my spending, that has been a very important lesson to learn and one I am glad I have learnt.Debt Free - done
Mortgage Free - done

I dont like it much. I am getting used to it. but I can't say I like or enjoy it.
I have just been shopping with vouchers which was good - very dfw and it felt good to treat myself but I don't know I just guess I am naturally irresponsible and this is making me change - in a good way and in the long run I will benefit, but sometimes my inner teenager kicks in and I just want to do what I want not what I should.
slinks off to not shop on Amazon.

I'm not in debt but this site has helped me to budget my money. I enjoy the challenge, but occasionally do wish I had more money. I do like feeling in control of my finances though, makes me calm :T0

I quite enjoy it now but it took the first 2 years to get used to it. During the past year I have had other mini LBM's lke understanding how the debt developed, understanding compound interest and realising that the banks, loan co's + CC co's are more enemy that friend.
The BESTEST thing has been how it has improved my marriage (oddly) 21 yrs nxt wk.
We are on the final 12 months now to DF land and I can't wait.........it's been very slimming too!0 -
I don't enjoy it much. I love my spreadsheet but rarely does the money work out as planned because I can't stick to it. I am lucky to only owe £1200 on a 0% CC so don't have the same motivation as some who are worse off. I have learned a lot from this site and I am more aware now where the money is going so thats a plus. I don't think I ever wasted money as such but I do like to meet my friends in town and like today (I bought all 5 of us a cuppa and it cost me £7) I can't do it for free. I am retired and I refuse to become a couch potato and like to socialise but I don't spend huge amounts. I have hobbies which are never cheap but to balance this I don't buy as many clothes as I used to when I worked. Its all a compromise really and as long as I can make ends meet I can't be bothered to worry. I would much rather be filthy rich though.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

Although I'm not in debt its only cos I don't have a lot of things like a car and holidays. Mostly I'm OK with that but sometimes I wish I could splash out a bit.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

I'm trying to get all my payments and direct debits transferred to the middle of the month so that everything comes off the day after pay day. It's amazing the amount of places that say, "No - we can't change". For example, I took out a Cahoot loan 4 years ago, shortly thereafter lost my job, and asked if I could change my date of payment to suit the new payment regime. They said 'no'. Strangely though, they have no problems taking it on either the 4th or the 6th when it suits them, yet tell me I've got a fixed payment date.
It used to work so well: paid on the last day of the month, all direct debits came off on the first, divide by 4 what's left and there's my weekly living allowance. When I went to contract work it was so much more difficult to keep track of what was being paid and when due to the unpredictable pay dates, Worst still was when I went to 4 weekly. I was changing direct debit dates every few months to bring them into sync with that particular cycles pay day. Really made my brain hurt it did! It was so much easier when the money went in one day, out the next and I could play with what was left.
Colleagues in the last job used to say about the 4 weekly thing, "Well if your mortgage is due to come off before you get paid, then just transfer some from your savings". HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!! Savings? They jest surely? (I guess savings and smugness are what happens when you're married with two healthy incomes and never experienced unemployment - I can't wait to be smug someday!).Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
I love being frugal or rather learning to be frugal.I have discovered that I am actually a bit of a control freak and feel quite empowered being in control of my spending rather than my spending being in control of me.
I still have my shoppinf sprees but these are now limited to poundland or charity shops so a spree now will cost me as little as 50p and as much as £10 whereas before I changed my bad spending habits I could have the urge to shop and spend the morning in BHS home dept and come out £300 poorer having bought some new cushions and a vase which I definately didn,t need(all on a credit card).
This tuesday I had the urge to shop after I dropped the little one off at school so I rummaged in my pockets for change and found 45p lurking there(I dont take my purse or bag out with me anymore, just incase),I trawled the charity shops looking at the vases and jugs and bought myself a little stoneware vase."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0
