Last summer when my inlaws visited from NZ, sister in law said that she does all her washing (including undies and towels) in cold water soap. Saves on energy and is fully available over there. The clothes don't lose all their colour either.
Have tried to discover something similar here in UK but to no avail. Does anyone know about this stuff or use it here?
The amount of washing I do it would be so worthwhile.
Thanks.

Can you get washing machines that do a cold wash, then? The coolest mine gets is 40 degrees :-/
I've done a quick search, but can't find anything on cold water soap. Could you use washing liquid instead of powder? I keep some liquid in case I need to hand wash anything in cool water, I would've thought it would be OK for a cold wash in the machine :-/Bulletproof0 -
I had an old washing machine that you could choose the temperature for, but the one I have now is not so obliging. It does have a 30 degree wash which only takes 1/2 hour which is quite useful. It's not great for whites though. I haven't heard of cold water soap, but do use liquid rather than powder, as that is probably easier to dissolve.0

Yes you can get cold fill machines as she has one. My old machine was only connected to the cold fill and I could set a temperature I wanted to use. However my new machine runs at a minimum of 30 degrees.
There must still be makers of cold fill machines around.0 -

I only searched the UK ::)
My machine is only connected to the cold water pipe, but the machine doesn't have a cold wash option. My friend's a sparky, I bet he'll find a way round it for me ;DBulletproof0 -
I have a Bosch Maxx which has a cold water wash.
Do you think it would work with liquid wash?
I have some washing in at the moment and have some more to do.
Perhaps I will try it on the next wash see how it comes out.0 -
Yes, Angela can be our official tester ;DBulletproof0

OK next lot of washing sitting poised by the machine.
(neve been so excited about doing washing),sad isn't it.
The only thing I think I may need to do is possibly give it an extra rinse.
I will see how much it smells of liquid cleaner when it comes out.
But I am sure that is cheaper(as I am on a water meter)
than the electricity to heat the water.0 -
any news on the delivery?Blah0
