Dell 5160 dcjack problem

I’ve been having a DC Jack problem with my 5160. For no known reason the battery light came on and the laptop ran off of battery power until the battery fully discharged even though the AC power remained connected and on.
With the power cord plugged in there is no charging, and one battery light on amber.

My battery stopped charging despite the attempts to use the AC Adapter from my other dell laptop that works just fine.

Obviously, the computer eventually died.
When I try to power it on nothing happens.

serched on the web and there is this court case against dell in atlanta in us and its all about faulty motherboard and dc jack, as far i understood they are replacing it for free for them. we could try it here (UK) too, if there is enough people whos dell 5160 dc jack is faulty? what do u think?
contacted dell about my dc jack replacement already, but no response yet

soldering iron time, most likely. Not the perfect solution though, especially not if it's still under warranty.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Its quite sad when someones first reaction is to take someone to court, without even letting the other side (in this case, Dell) respond!

I guess it is just the times we live in.

It's quite sad when people don't read posts properly. Two of them, in fact. I guess it's just the times we live in.

Quote me the bit of the original post that says he's initiated court proceedings please.

From what he says, there's a class action suit in progress in the states, or there was. It appears to be resolved now, and Dell have fixed the laptops or are in the process of doing so.

The OP has contacted dell about getting his laptop fixed. That's all. No lawyers etc.

I think you need to re-read my post. I did not state that he had involved lawyers, or initiated court proceedings. I said it is sad when people think of this before even letting a company respond.

Well in that case, your post makes no sense in this context. Who here mentioned lawyers before letting Dell respond? Apart from you and The_JinJ, of course.

    ok ladies handbags down....

The post is slightly ambiguous, could be read both ways.

"..serched on the web and there is this court case against dell in atlanta in us and its all about faulty motherboard and dc jack, as far i understood they are replacing it for free for them. we could try it here (UK) too......"

    Court case or free replacement?

Whatever, if it's a common problem and laptop is under warranty then Dell will replace or repair. Out of warranty it will be down to their discretion.....
