ftp transfer software

hello,
please be patient,
I run a small business and I need to update my website, this was set up by professionally hosting etc but i want to update it from time to time myself.
I've tried running smartftp but my laptop stops as soon as I try to open a file on my computer to transfer the new source code over to the ftp transfer bit any suggestions for (A) a fix for the above or (B) recommend some opefully free software to allow me to transfer these files. PLease not I'm very limited to my computer knowledge so please keep it simple if poss

    Filezilla. Make sure that passive mode is enabled.

    For simple transfer of files to an ftp server have you tried using Windows File Explorer? It's part of Windows, you login to the ftp site and drag the files as required.

    I use the basic windows file explorer and it works well.
    ie: just do "file open" and then type the ftp address into the file address bar.

    With all due respect, I don't think you should be attempting to update a professional website just yet - I suggest you download Filezilla, read the help files, and do a lot of research on FTP etc.

    You could very easily break the whole site with one wrong click - be careful :)

    Ahhh - in that case download a program called Filezilla then, and read the help file :)

    I use ftprush myself because I need the scriptability but for standard uploading/downloading, filezilla is great.
