Help needed urgent

My friend has just emailed me, her mother had a bit of a turn this morning and wet herself, she cannot get rid of the smell, I told her to use bicarb and leave it for a few days and then either brush it up or hoover it up.

Any other suggestions.????????? Thanks

I use biological washing powder solution on wee and it seems to get rid of the smell :)

Something to do with the enzymes apparently

Or you could try Napisan - if it gets the smell out of washable nappies then it must get it out of other things - it can be used on coloured fabrics so should be ok on carpets etc...

There is not a stain, I have just spoken to her, Mother's heart stopped apparently, shes 95, and at present in the CC unit at our local hospital, she wet herself whilst she was unconcious.

The urine went all over the Vinyl floor and the ambulance people and my friend have stepped in and out of it, spreading around. She has mopped with vinegar and bleach but she says she can still smell it..................I told her to sprinkle the bicarb over the floor and leave it overnight and see if it absorbs the smell..................The floor in the hall is also a heavy vinyl...........

i hope her mum is doing well, bicarb should work in time. at least it was vinal floor as smell should clear quicker than carpet.... my 90 year old grandad had a stroke and urinated on the carpet when he fell unconcious, it took weeks to get the smell out - although we were not as quick acting as your friend!!

All the best to you and your Mum, as for the smell the only thing I can think of is using bleach to clean the floor, and on carpets you can use Zoflora disinfectant, diluted into a spray bottle and sprayed on carpets and soft furnishings where needed.
    Kind regards,

Part of it might also be that because she knows it happened she can still smell it. It must have been traumatic and smells and trauma are closely linked. I would do a solution of biological washing powder and wash anything that might have come into contact.

I'm sure I read somewhere that you shouldn't use bleach to clean up urine as the ammonia reacts with it, or something similar, so will actually make it smell worse

Apologies if I've got it wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's something along those lines ;)

I was just thinking the same. It could be that the smell is 'in her nose'. However, I know that by putting a thick layer of bicarb on dog pee, pushing it in well, leaving it to dry and vacuuming it up, the smell goes.

I hope this lady is doing well and feeling better.
  • Pine disinfectant reacts with dog wee and makes it smell worse. I'm not sure about human wee, sorry.
I hope her Mum is on the mend now.
