Selling a Private Number Plate

Hi,

Does anyone have experience of selling a private reg? I got one as a present but have no plans to buy a vehicle anytime soon. It is currently on a Certificate Of Entitlement. National numbers are the purchaser and I am the nominee.

I have someone who is interested in buying it. Do I have to apply to have the nominee changed or can anyone who is in possession of the certificate apply to change the name?

Thanks

  • It would be the purchaser - National Numbers - who would need to add/remove a nominee.

As nominee you have no rights to the numberplate. This can complicate things a tad when you come to sell the rights to the plate because the person you would pass it onto would have to rely on your word and the actions of another company to complete the transaction.

So you should probably contact them to find out what they want from you - docs/fees etc - to add new person. Cost is normally £25.
