bank paying out large sum on one proof of i.d..any advice ????

wondered if anyone could help and advise regarding the guide lines of a high st bank paying out when no pass book was presented and only one valid form of id. i understand one has to be photographic and the other prove the address. one met the criteria yet the other proof accepted was a council tax bill from 2001 where i understand this should be within the current year. i have written to the bank to ask there reasons for this and to date had no reply. i feel that if the correct id had been requested the withdrawal of a substancial sum would not have been able to be made and just wondering legally how i stand. any help would be very much appreciated. thank you.

    Passport + ability to answer security questions is normally all that's required. You're confusing with the ID needed to open the account (and comply with money laundering requirements)
    If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

    Mikeyorks is spot on. The ID needed for a withdrawal is whatever the bank asks for to be satisfied that the customer is genuine. Even when there is a fixed list of ID asked for, there is more discretion available than when a new account is being opened. If the withdrawal was fraudulent, ie made by someone who isn't named on the account, then it's the bank's fault (whatever ID they've seen) and they should refund it. If the withdrawal was legit then the bank acted correctly and you haven't got a complaint against them.

    i have written to the bank to ask there (their) reasons for this and to date had no reply

    A) If it was a Fraudulent withdrawal then you should contact the Police, and also the Head Office of the Bank concerned and ask to be put in contact with their compliance and fraud team.

    B) If it was a perfectly legal withdrawal made by yourself, (or another of the account holders if there is more than one) then the Bank probably consider you to be a Pain in the A%$e who should have something better to do than complain when nothing wrong has happened. Maybe they think you should go back to tripping over non-existant broken paving stones and suing the Council !!
