Getting MSN virus messages from a known sender

Hi,
I've been getting spam on MSN which appears to be from someone I know. There is usually an attachment and a message along the lines of "Have a look at (something) in my photo". Unfortunately the first time it happened I clicked on it.
It is happening very regularly now and has began to use the same colour as my font which is a bit scary!
I don't suppose anyone could be reading my messages could they?
I've disabled sharing but can anyone please tell me how to get rid of this pest.

Thanks,
D.

is a virus, run a full check as well as a spyware check. If you dont have these try AVG Virus scanner and Adaware for spyware. If you still cant get rid of them just google it or look at www.mess.be and they have more of less everything on there!

its a worm NOT a virus, quite harmless really. its not ur friend. ur friend clicked the link which enabled it to be sent on to everyone on their contacts list. ur current AV should pick it up if not, manually get rid of it via links on ur av website.

I'm not sure how you can class such a worm as harmless. These worms spread filth to all your contacts, change Internet Explorer's settings, apply restrictions to vital Windows functions, open backdoors allowing an attacker to download and execute further malicious files, and steal passwords and personal information.

Now I don't know about you but I'd say that's certainly far from harmless!!

    D.K.,

First and foremost, do NOT login to messenger again until we've got you cleaned up.

Secondly, please post a HijackThis log so we can diagnose exactly what worm we're dealing with. Despite popular belief, these things often need specialist tools to remove and REPAIR the damage.

    Download HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
    • Double-click HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop to start the installation.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Hijack This.
    • Click the Install button and HijackThis will launch automatically.
    • Click the Scan button to generate a HijackThis log and then click Save Log to open it as a text file.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back to this thread and Paste the log (Ctrl+V) in your next reply.

This has just happened to me also. Got a message from a friend saying to have a look at there pic so I clicked on it. Tried to open it and it didnt work. I then received another two of them and clicked on them again!!

Signed out of MSN and then logged back in and another friend messaged me to tell me that they could not open the file I sent them, I didnt send anything so no it looks like I am sending this on.

I am currently running a virus scan but so far nothing has came up. Whats next? Does doing what DK say get rid of this thing?

Just started comping again, wish me luck!!!
