Is my hard drive going? Files disappeared!

Odd problem this one.
Came home. Stuck on itunes. "Can not find file". Odd.
Took a look in my fold
\files\VariousBought\
It was empty but used to be full. my NAS has got it all backed up. Tried restoring, but get CRC errors!
Taken a look in event viewer, says:
The device, \Device\Harddisk1\D, has a bad block.
Scandisk/checkdisk fails.. just stops saying "can not complete".
Will a format sort this? Help!

I had this once many moons ago the only thing that got around it was to use active kill disk, I will PM you
Oh yeah my HD was playing up but never found out what it really was

Just to let you know, C:\ and\ drive are actually different disks as well. So I can format \ from wtihin windows...
