Paying Hm Customs & Excise With Credit Card

Sorry to clog the board up with this one but have used the search facility and can't find the thread anywhere! I'm sure I read somewhere on MSE Martin advising that you can pay your income tax bill on a credit card, (would have been a great stooze!) but my accountant says HMRC won't accept them. Can anyone confirm this and/or point me to the right thread. Thanks in advance.

Don't worry, everyone, I found it! It's one of Martin's blogs and he's added a post to say HMRC haven't started it yet. Should be a good stooze for the future though!

I bet you will pay a surcharge for using it though negating any stoozing benefit.

I've payed HMRC using Credit Card cheques in the past. My own fault, as i ignored demands for payment, then this guy turned up in person demanding £6K :eek:

Yes, should think they'll certainly recoup their merchant's fee so would depend on your stooze deal whether it's worth it or not. If the 12/14/15mths purchases at 0% deals are still on offer and interest rates haven't dropped too drastically when HMRC start allowing payment on a credit card it should still be worth doing. As Martin pointed out in his blog you must check that your credit card company will treat this as a purchase and not a cash withdrawal though!
