On the other hand, I know many people who like to be near schools (no, not pervs), particularly older residents.
My old house backed onto a school and meant that we had a huge expanse of green to look out on. But then, this was a primary school. Not so sure I'd want to be anywhere near a secondary comp!!0 -
Indeed. I think the message for me and others trying to sell their houses is to use wording that hopefully will not put off anyone. If there's a school nearby, say so (i.e. "nearby"), but without stating that it's on the doorstep!
Just proves that it is extremely difficult to word an ad that appeals to everyone!!ELR0 -
I agree with some of the others - it all could be academic - if you are overpricing your house, in the current market where the majority are reducing, you are not going to get the quick sale you need. I'm in the position of just about to move into our dream house & we put our home on the market for a price that was reasonable & we sold in 3 days - work out your figures to enable you to acquire the house, don't include a sum to do it up to your dream expectation, you have all the years ahead to work on it - if you outprice yourself, you'll be extremely lucky to get the price you are asking0

Absolutely. In the house I'm hoping to buy, I need to convert the garage into a study as I work from home. I'd originally put aside a sum to complete the work as soon as I move but that really limits how much I've got to play with trying to sell my current house. Instead, I'm now giving myself extra flexibility to reduce the price of my current house and will then do the garage conversion a little later than originally planned (there's a spare bedroom I can use as an office in the meantime).ELR0
