HTTP.!!!!!!!.com

When I am given a link like the one above (which has a few more characters after the "com") why is it that I am never taken to the site it refers to? I can find lots of info about the use of !!!!!!! but these seem to be intended for people wanting to pass on long links. I apologise if this is a novice question.

Have you noticed that you're only getting exclamation marks when you post? That's because the use of those kinds of links are banned on the forum. They could easily lead to viruses, inappropriate material etc without you knowing. They are designed to be contracted link rather than having to post the entire thing but they're not allowed here because of the risk.

Thank you super, I was just going to post and point out that I didn't put those exclamations marks in. I realised I must have broken one of the rules.

Obviously not deliberately, and it's not an obvious rule either without actually reading all the rules or being told about it. Nothing wrong with posting t i n y u r l for example but there's an automatic mechanism in place to make sure you don't post an actual real link. It's difficult to be specific about the links you are having problems with, all I can say is that you don't know where those links will really take you without actually clicking on them and hence the danger as well. So maybe the ones you're talking about they're deliberately misleading about what the link leads to. Although they are usually used legitimately, this forum tends to err on the side of caution.
