Credit card for 1st time in 15 yrs: best card?

in Credit cards
I haven't had a credit card in my own name for 15 yrs (no bad credit, just decided I didn't want one anymore). However, I'm going to need one for a new job (expenses).
My OH has several CC's and owes around £10,000 out of max combined credit limits of approx. £55,000  (and I am a 2nd cardholder on these).
When I looked at my credit report, there just isn't anything on it apart from our mortgage and a store card I use very occasionally (and pay off in full) as I've not had loans/ credit of any sort for a long time.
Which card is likely to give me a reasonable credit limit? I don't want to be rejected, or be given a tiny limit as I would need to put at least £500 expenses per month on it. I'm worried I'll be credit scored really low.
Any suggestions? Anyone been in a similar position?

Apply for a credit card with your bank.. the chances of being given one with a decent credit limit are the highest there..
After about 6 months, you may want to apply for a 2nd card.. say one which gives cashback

I personally would say that if your bank has a decent credit card then by all means apply for one of those, but you don't necessarily have to get one from your bank. The fact that your mortgage and the store card is on the credit file is a good thing as you have a credit history, so it's not like you have no history at all.
If you're going to be paying off the credit card in full every month then it doesn't really matter which card you go for because you won't be paying interest.
Presumably your mortgage is held jointly with your OH, as you state 'our'? If so you'll probably be financially linked with them on your credit report, so it may be best to get them to check their report also to make sure its all correct.
If the worst thing happens and whichever card you apply for it gets declined, then you could use one of your OH credit cards for the time being (as there's plenty of available credit). Then whilst you're using their card you could get one of the credit cards for higher risk customers to build up even more history on your credit file.
There's really no one card which anybody could say is definately for you. The best thing to probably do is read through all the guides on this site for credit cards and then make your own mind up having done that. The guides can be found here:

Thanks for the info: I'll try my bank first, I really don't want the trauma of being rejected......0
