Cancel payment protection

I have a Virgin credit card with £5,500 owing. I am paying over £40 per month for payment protection and want to cancel it so the £40 will be coming off my balance instead. Can I just ask them to cancel the payment protection straightaway? Will they let me do this? Should I write to them or phone them? Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyone help? I had a mis-call from Virgin last night so I know they will be phoning me again probably to talk me into keeping the payment protection. I just need to know if I am within my rights to cancel it before I talk to them. Thanks again.0
