I have just recieved a letter from inland revenue saying has your income changed regarding tax credits and it also says the amounts that we will be getting, the thing is my daughter started university last October and i notified them. I have checked bank statements and we have still been getting tax credits every mth, If my daughter started uni October when should these payments have stopped. Because obviously we have been overpaid, and we couldnt possibly pay this back all at once i have two daughters in uni.
Thanks
Thanks

If you are still receiving tax credits for your daughter who is at University you must inform TCO straight away to stop further overpayment.
If you did inform them she went to Uni, can you remember when you called?
If you know roughly when you called you can dispute the overpayment when it is finalised at the end of the tax year based on the fact that you already informed them. If you have received award notices since then you should have checked that payments stopped for her.
Do you have any other children on the claim? Do you have a low income and possibly receiving WTC and not CTC?0 -
Hi thanks for your reply, i actually rang them before she started uni to inform them.I dont have any other children on the claim my other daughter also goes to uni, we dont get wtc i dont work because i am disabled hubbys not on a very good wage either. Do you know if we could pay this back monthly what we will owe them and how much would it be if we can. I will make a dispute about it though.
Thanks Again.0 -
If you dispute the overpayment and the outcome is that you still need to pay it back, you can arrange to pay it back over a period of up to 12 months normally. If you need longer than 12 months then will need to complete an income/expenditure list with you to check how much you can afford.
The number to deal with repaying an overpayment is 0845 302 1429.
If you need advice about tax credits you need to call the normal helpline on 0845 300 3900 as the overpayment helpline will only deal with paying it back.0
