Credit agencies

Does anyone know how often credit agencies update their files? I have paid off and am now going to cancel my barclaycard so my available credit is less before applying for a different cc. Don't want to apply until the barclaycard shows as settled (or cancelled - not sure what it would actually say).
What did I do at work before I discovered MSE?!

DFD - WAS: a while ago

NOW - not sure, due to boyfriend going back to uni for masters and now pgce. Worth it in the long run!
Proud to be dealing with my debts!

    Hi xela

Each lender provides payment details and card closure information once a month to the CRAs, so I would allow 2 months to be fairly certain that the update has gone through. You can get access to your credit file by getting hold of the statutory report costing £2 or by signing up for their online service which usually comes with a 30 day free trial but is considerably more expensive.

I requested my files from both experian and eqifax two weeks ago. I applied online on Saturday and received them both in the post on Tuesday 4 days later. Interestingly neither had details of my bank current account and credit card.
