Boiler Problem

We have owned our house a year and we knew within a week the central heating system was not the best. But as we can't afford to replace it at present we trying to make last as long as we can.

Its a back bolier, which could easily be 30 years old. The problem we are having is that it does not seem to like going off and has a bit of a life of its own. Last night, with both the heating and water off on the controller, the boiler was going full pelt all night.

We are kind of broke, but we are trying to build a new kitchen fund, so we could, much to my wifes dismay, redirect these funds at the heating system. She really wanted the kitchen before our 7th baby popped (:o) but the central heating / water is of course more important.

When I get home after work today I will remove the fireplace and try and work out exactly what boiler it is etc.

Any advice out there? Thanks in advance

    Hi

I would say this is the one type of boiler you don't want to mess with.
This is the open flue type and unless serviced regularly can kill. Carbon Monoxide.
Get a corgi in to have a look . It would be a sticky gas valve possibly, unless the external controls are faulty. Please do not attempt a repair your self. I would also not use it until it is looked at.
Get a CO alarm as well.

    Corgi Guy.
Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)
