This is free to use for 30 days http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/
Is your Windows not genuine ? If not you should buy a legit copy , then you wont have all these problems.

  • If you already have music on your PC in the form of mp3s add it to the library of itunes, then you can select which you want on your pod

Go to the bottom of your task bar and click on "safely remove hardware " then click to remove ipod. Plug it back in then try again.
Did you try Xplay ? you dont need itunes if you have Xplay and its free for 30 days and you just drag and drop the music to the ipod if you have music stored on your computer.

    thanks for that

    have got it sorted now

the freezing of the screen also led to the computer not finding the ipod at all

i googled the message that was coming up (connected eject before disconnecting) and found a site that said you just have to press and hold the middle button and menu button, it worked and is unfrozen!

If you are stuck on how to do things then you could look here for help.

It gets you off to a good start.

I know that IPods do not come with full instructions on "how to" but they do push you in the right direction if you read the enclosed paperwork.

Yes, I know, everyone likes to remove all the packaging and expect it to go smoothly for the first time.

    Good luck.
