Long journey with kids in car help...

We bought our two children (13 and 11) a portable dvd player each for Christmas a couple of years ago and it has made such a difference when travelling in the car. My son is no longer car sick and it is so peaceful (no "are we nearly there yet?" or back seat squabbles) and they don't mind how long the journey is now.

Before we go on a long trip my 5 year old cuts out pictures from magazines of things he might see out the car window - sticks them on a sheet - then on the trip he ticks them off as he sees them. Keeps him quiet for ages!

The younger one is more tricky. My 1 year old falls asleep as soon as the engine starts or just looks out the window. I know its not PC but a bag of sweets administered slowly usualy helps.
