Debit Card Skimming/Fraud

Hi - I have just started to look at my bank statement and noticed a few transactions that I have never made (mainly because I was out of town!). I live in the warrington (cheshire) area and was wondering if anyone else had cash machine transactions that they never made at Halifax ATMs or others? My card is with the alliance and leicester and the transactions are being dealt with by the fraud team there. Reason I ask is to have some 'back up' in case they get difficult with me!Any info would be appreciated.M

Thanks for that - am worried as it is on a debit card - did it take long for them to get the money back to you, the transactions i have highlighted come to around 700quid!0

Hi have you taken similar amounts out from another bank around that time? It is possible the incorrect ATM description has been applied to the statement? The first thing that the bank may come back at you with is have you disclosed your PIN number to any one as to withdraw Cash as the transactions would be Chip and Pin? Have they now blocked your card, if not do so immediately. If the card has been skimmed or cloned then I would suspect that it has happened to others too. All banks report fraud to a central source and if a pattern has emerged it would substantiate your claim, a common point of compromise I think they call it. In addition ask your bank if you need to report the matter to the police and if you have to obtain a crime reference number. Regardless always put your enquiry in writing. For the future always hide the key pad when entering in your pin, and never let your card out of your sight. For example if at a restaurant and you offer to pay by card, ensure the terminal is brought to you, if you give the card to the waiter, he goes to get the terminal and hands you back both, he then stands behind you seeing the pin number you enter, viola he now has both the mag stripe details (Which he skimmed when you gave him the card and left your sight to get the terminal) and the pin number that he just observed over your shoulder.
Best of Luck, hope this helps0 -

In my case the transactions were not withdrawals but card payments which i did not make.
A&L cancelled my card and sent a new one with new pin number:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -
Just logged into MSE to see what posts there were on debit card fraud - discovered today that around £3000 has been spent using my A&L debit card in the past two days. I can't think of any occasions it's left my sight but...
The bank's fraud team are sorting it out - does that mean a full refund? They've stopped the card now anyway.
Cottoned on to MSE end July06 - I have seen the light!!!
[blah blah blah} the thing is, if I'm so b***dy brilliant, why am I still broke?
