Buying A Freehold Garage Block

Hi!

I'm not sure who I need to direct this question to in the outside world, so thought I would ask you good people first! :D

A friend & I know of a large block of garages down his road which are in a state of disrepair, 2 are still used, but the remaining 12(approx) are not.
These garages are Freehold and part of the title deeds belonging to the respective home owner.

Has anyone had any dealings with buying garages of this type? Also how difficult would it be to obtain planning permission for the land?

If so, who would I need to contact?

Thank You!

Good morning Coot from Hampshire. I am not the one to ask for the answer realy! Love the " my friend " stories  . I read you would like to buy the garages and turn the land into yet more flats? You need to talk to the garage owner to see if he wants to sell, then get some EA in to value the land.
I am sure others will have a better idea and come along soon
P.S. it is the council for planning
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Although the home owners own the freeholds of the garages, the land around them may be still owned by someone else. Also another factor the council will look at is the impact of parking. 14 garages = 14 parking spaces, even if they are not used. could the road take 14 more cars parking on it?

  • Hi,

Thanks for the replies, was thinking of turning the unused land into houses, rather than flats. However, I totally agree that maybe removing the garages would create a shortage of spaces, and may be a good enough reason not to proceed.

As there are many owners/deeds to these garages, should I approach each one induvidually?

    Ta v much!
