Hi we live in Scotland and my daughter left school at 16 years of age and went straight into full time employment. she worked for about a year and a half and paid tax and national insurance but is now unemployed and looking for another job. Benefits office say shes not entitled to any money but i thought if she had paid tax and national insurance she would be entitled to some financial help am i right.

If you're daughter is under 18 she will be expected to go back into education or get another job, she isn't entitled to benefits in her own right, you are expected to support her.
Sam
ETA see this attachment which gives more details, she won't be entitled to JSA contribution based benefit as she won't have paid NI in the right tax years, she may be entitled to Bridging Allowance but I believe this is paid at a rate of around £3 a day.

Does it make a difference if a child is not living @ home? What if the parent/child relationship has broken down?0

Yes it does make a difference if the child is not living at home, they can receive benefits in some circumstances, the following leaflet gives more details (I assume it is still up-to-date). http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/stellent/groups/jcp/documents/websitecontent/dev_011837.pdf0
