Imaginative way to spring a surprise trip?

Hi all
I've booked a surprise trip to Prague for my husbands birthday (15th Feb) - does anyone have any ideas on how to spring it? Its Valentines day the day before obv but I wanted to wait until the very last minute ie Fri morn - his b'day (we fly at 12noon) to spring the surprise. I was thinking about just wrapping up a Prague guide book and giving it to him that morning but it doesnt seem very imaginative. I'll also need to somehow have his case packed and ready to go without him noticing.
I'm not getting him a gift for valentines so also need to excuse that in some way - and make an excuse as to why we're not going out that night (need to be up early and fresh for our trip on friday!) eeeeek!
any ideas welcome xxx

How about making up a chocolate slab (see thread on here) for valentines day, it wont cost very much and then you dont have to make up an excuse for not buying him anything.
How about presenting him with some sort of poem or clues to make him guess? Sorry i'm useless with those sort of things, but perhaps theres someone on here who would be able to help?...I know that others have helped me with poems to go with gifts in the past (which I was extremely grateful for)
Good luck with the packing, perhaps you could pretend items are in the wash and need ironing but instead you have them packed away neatlyThats quite understandable in my house as I always have a huge ironing pile lol

Hi, i've done something similar. I have booked a weekend away in london for me and my fiance, theater shows and meals, so i have told her that we're not going out on Valentines Day but going for a meal at the weekend.
I am planning on giving her a printed map in her card with the location of the theaters, hotel, restaurants marked on it. Then she will either realise what it means or ask what the hell it is.
As for getting his suitcase packed if you do the washing/ironing in the house you may be able to pack things in the build up to you going away maybee.0 -
thanks guys - oohhh i love the choc slab idea - have been checking out the thread and its definitely the money saving way! I've got to have some stitches out on valentines day so that may be my opt out of going anyway - just play up the soreness me thinks!
the packing isn't really the problem - i can pack on thursday while he's at work. its where to put the suitcase when its packed? he drives the car to work so i cant put it in the boot while he's out - and we dont have a garage or anywhere to hide it in? A big fat packed suitcase is gonna look a little bit conspicuous! the only other option is to pack after i've told him but we'll be in such a hurry that its not really ideal.
i was thinking of wrapping the guidebook up in a shoebox - not hugely original i know!
ps west-andy - lovely thought - your fiance is a lucky girl!!MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

I'd do a treasure hunt around the house making him look for clues0

fill the suitcase and put it in the bottom of your wardrobe (take your shoes out your having a clear out ;-) )

Where was the suitcase before it was packed? Would you be able to put it back there? Only you would know it has been packed.0

hey - now thats a good idea - a bit risky mind! its currently in our bedroom from our last trip - i haven't nagged him to put it away in the loft as I knew I wouldn't be able to get up and get it - and certainly cant get it back up there! perhaps i could drape a few clothes over it - OH isn't the most observant so maybe, just maybe that could work!MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

Why dont you do all the above..but make out that you have booked a trip somewhere here - got a late deal on Ebay or something - and then at the last minute tell him to go to the airport as you are really going to Prague ???? When I was a child we were told we were going to brighton but actually went to Spain - I remember what a lovely surprise that was over 30 years later !!!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

Do you have good neighbours? could you leave it with them?
If it was my darling OH I'd just leave it in the ironing pile"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0
