A friend of mine wants a rough guide on what is and how to use microsoft word/excel programs. She has an interview next week and wants to learn how to use the word/excel and learn what they are used for. She is not looking for a thorough/advanced course. She just needs to know the basic. If she gets the job they will give her training. Her son has a computer but no internet access. I was thinking of downloading a film clip or instructions onto a dvd/cd and pass it to her. Any guidance? Thanks in advance for the replies.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

A very basic reply would be that Word is in the main used for creating documents like letters, invoices etc. It basically starts with a blank page representing a piece of paper onto which you can type. It helps you create paragraphs etc. But it can do so much more than just this.
Excel is a spreadsheet; that is a sheet with lots of rows and columns in which data is input. This can be used to create a list of data. It has a function to do maths calculations within the cells, so can add up, divide, average the contents etc.
Very basic info I know! See ebenezers post for online training :TI'm a nutter :j0 -

Sooler, good link. Thanks
The OP does not have internet access so can I suggest she tries the local
library computer services and also borrow a couple of books in the Using XXXXX for Dummies series. Word / Excel is, at its basic level easy to get to grips with however like most heavyweight applications can be extremly powerful in the right hands.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I have already suggested to her to pay a visit the local library. I think she could do with something like a video clip which shows the basic. Being a mother of two and working part time i don't think she will have much time to read through a book.
