LPG conversion

60 miles 5 days a week is 15,600 miles @ 30mpg 520gal = £2435
@ 24 mpg (LPG) 650gal £1477
saving £1040 per year, so I agree it will save £20 a week.
I think your money would be better spent on a new car, but there are obvious pitfalls buying a new car already converted and likely to have high miles.
If you spend a bit more say £2800 - £3500 you can pick up a factory fitted vauxhall astra on a 2003 plate 50K - 80K miles either privately or at auction.0 -

.
And don't forget that the above is based purely on your commute to and from work and back. If you use the car at weekends, evenings, holiday's etc.. the savings increase. Hence 20k per year is probably a better benchmark.0 -

No brainer to me!
Checking the calculator i would be better off by £432 in the first year- but that doesn't include the supply and fit - although i reckon i can get ti done for possibly less than that by sourcing lpg unit from scrap car and getting my brother to fit it.0 -
If it were me, I'd spend the £1500 on a diesel car. Do the maths first to see how much, but diesel should save you money, and is available from any petrol station you like, whereas LPG is only at very select places.
I can think of at least two motorway services that don't sell LPG anymore, and a couple of local petrol stations have also stopped doing it. Also, a couple of years back it was 29p a litre, but now its a lot closer 50p.
And it doesn't last as long as petrol.
I've got a Rover, and whenever I mention it to somebody, I'm told the head gasket will go any day and cost more than the car to replace. Mine's a 95 M-reg 214, and it's done 80,000 miles. In perfect condition (it isn't), it'd be still be worth less than £500. Rover's aren't worth anything. That might put yours in some perspective....the LPG conversion would cost a lot more than the car is worth.0 -
Shop around. £1500 is the top end of what you can pay for the latest multi point injection system. Many are available for £1100 to £1200 fully fitted and 2 years warranty.
Some of the budget systems are under £1000.0 -

If he buys an LPG car already converted - and doesn't pay too much for it, no doubt a lot of sellers think they can add a grand onto their LPG car price because that's what it cost them to fit!!!! Then he is likely to beat or equal any diesel on the market, and the most economic diesels out there (74mpg +) are likely to be VERY expensive because they are new models.0
