Hi, Im using Mozilla Thunderbird to received emails, which works great but when I try to send one it comes with an error saying connection to SMTP server smtp.yahoo.co.uk failed, it may be unavailable or refusing SMTP conections. Then its asking me to check my SMTP connections. They currently are smtp.yahoo.co.uk, port 25 and my user name is entered as well. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? Also does anyone know how to set a junk filter as well, all my junk went straight to it before I had this pc repaired, Im unable to set the junk folder again. Sorry for so many questions!!!

Yahoo require specific settings on thunderbird, outlook etc these are:
pop - pop.mail.yahoo.com
smtp - smtp.mail.yahoo.com (i assume yours will work as well but thats what I use)
pop - ssl encryption - port 993
smtp - ssl encryption - port 465 - outgoing server requires authentication using same username and password as pop
I don't have specific step by step insructions for thunderbird only got what I have in outlook but you should be able to find it all!0 -

Your ISP may not allow you to connect to the yahoo SMTP server so try using the SMTP of your ISP. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

I can't seem to get Thunderbird to work with more than one Yahoo! email addresses. Does anyone know if you can/how to do this?
Thanks.0 -

I have. When I go to check the email of the first one I created, it asks for my password then downloads the mail, as you'd expect. The others however, just respond:
"Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded invalid user/password"0 -

Not what I would expect! You should not have to enter your password each time, that is what an e-mail client does for you.

Are these other accounts enabled for POP3 access? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

I prefer not to have my PC remembering passwords for me, so I'm used to having to enter passwords everywhere.
I'd just thought of checking things from the Yahoo! end and was about to have a look when I read your post. That's exactly what the problem was: I'd forgotten to enable it in Yahoo!
Thanks for the speedy help.
I've noticed conflicting info. re. using Yahoo! with Thunderbird since I got Thunderbird, and I think I've realised why.. I've seen people state that you must upgrade to Yahoo!Mail Pluys/pay to be able to access it on clients such as Thunderbird, and I've also seen that you need a little tool called 'Ypops!'. I have a .com Yahoo! email address which I can't get to work in Thunderbird, and I believe that you can access free Yahoo! email via Thunderrbird if you have a .co.uk email (or possibly another extension other than .com), but that if you have a free .com Yahoo! email you need to upgrade. I'm not sure where Ypops comes in.. it's just been updated by it's writer though, so it's obviously still popular.
