SDHC memory card compatibility?

I'm thinking about buying a 4GB SD card and have seen a good deal on a SDHC one (Hi capacity, I guess!), but have also read that not everything will be compatible with it.
I'll mainly be using it with my Dell Inspiron 6400 (which has a card reader) and with a Canon Ixus 40 digital camera, but the manuals aren't much help....
Does anyone know if they will work with it, or how I can find out?
Thanks in advance

Works with my Ixus 70, but obviously its newer. If it doesn't mention it in the manual it probably won't work, try emailing Canon.
Also regarding card readers it will either need an update or just not work, so a new one may be needed.
I've got two card readers that say SDHC compatable and still won't read mine.0 -
SD and 2GB max from what a quick google says. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

ive just been given a 4mb sdhc card. the owner couldnt get it to work on any device he had. not tried it yet with my 2 canon cameras.
sdhc is very new. about 12 months old now. any device older than that, is unlikely to be succcessful with it.Get some gorm.0 -
I have tried one in an ixus 40 and it does not work correctly: I have to add though that the ixus 40 is one of the most robust compacts i have come across: i use pro SLR stuff and a few of us are never without compacts, the few of us that bought these have never regretted it, wind, rain, snow and freezing conditions and still going strong.
The moral to this story is , do not think that this camera is now inferior and that you have to upgrade, the 4 megapixel ccd is all that anyone needs , unless of course they are taking pictures for bill boards, all this megapixel is just marketing hype : so buy a 2GB sd card and enjoy your camera for many years to come.0 -
Hi - came across this old thread. Amazon have a Transcend 4gb SD card for £6.99 delivered. It should not technically exist but it does and works perfectly with the Ixus 40. It is also fast enough to shoot the whole 1GB of video (camera limitation) whereas some other slower cards I have had have limited video to 20 seconds or so as they could not write fast enough. If you have an Ixus 40 or 50 this card is an absolute no brainer and unbelievable value. Hope this helps anyone else looking for the information as I was last week and could not find an answer!
By the way the professional who says the Ixus 40 is a great camera is spot on. Stick a 4GB card in it and why do you need to upgrade- it takes wonderful photos, is solid as a rock and 4 megapixels is definately all you need.0
