I also use G&B as it's 100% pure organic cocoa powder, no sugar or nasty fillers, plus it's also a Fair Trade product so at least the farmers are getting a decent price for their cocoa beans, unlike from Cadbury's et al
I use G&B cocoa powder - it's excellent as is their cooking chocolate, their vanilla ice-cream, their chocolate ice-cream........they are owned by Cadbury's now though.

Now that I am shocked about! I wasn't aware of this and it doesn't appear to be a recent acquisition either. Not sure why but it makes me feel somewhat uneasy, despite their (Cadbury's) claims to continue with the Fair Trade arrangements.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
I use Tesco's cocoa -comes in a brown tub. Cocoa is so much more versatile than drinking chocolate0

I was using g&B cos I got it reduced during organic week but I ran out of it lately and have been using tesco own brand since. I've mostly used it for dusting etc but it tastes absolutely fine to me...and I am kinda fussy about chocolate
I would avoid the drinking stuff if possible by the way0 -
asda and tesco both do their own brand cocoa, in store its with the baking things not the drinking chocolate so maybe its the same online?0

I use G&B, even though they're owned by Cadburys as the Fairtrade thing is an independently awarded mark. You can also get Cocodirect cocoa.
It is a lot more than Tesco or Cadburys, but I work on the fact that cocoa is not a staple - I use it to make treats for us, eg cakes and biscuits, and I think the farmer should get a fair price for what is a non essential for us - same with tea, coffee, sugar and drinking chocolate - and we are currently trialling fairtrade wine - well someone has to do it!!!!!
However if your budget won't stand this and I understand that some won't, Tescos is the cheapest I've found and it's fine in baking“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

It was probably Rowntrees cocoa that you remember though, it came in a maroon box with a sort of gold pattern on. There may have been an impression of a lady on the front, I forget.
Don't know why it's disappeared from british shelves though.:wave:0 -
yes it was that one.. it had a picture of a woman on the front..and it lasted ages and my mum was always baking but there was always some left in the box!!!!0

Incidentally the cocoa comes in a cylindrical container now but it's still maroon.
When the time comes that I can no longer get it, I will try G&B's I've tried others and they're just yeugh!
I've just been to the Nestle website and they have factories in the following towns:-
Castleford, Dalston, Fawdon, Girvan, Halifax, Hayes,Tutbury and York (of course).
So if you really want Rowntrees cocoa you will have to track down someone who works at one of these places and has an employee (or past employee) card and has access to the factory shop.:wave:0
