Couples holiday to Spain

Hubby and I are thinking about a week/10 days away late Feb or March(pretty flexible avoiding easter hols if possible). We could fly from Southampton or Bournemouth. Have looked at Nerja and enjoyed both Benidorm (out of season ) and Tossa De Mar. Madeira appeals but seems to be above budget. We didnt enjoy Turkey and hubby doesnt fancy Egypt/Tunisia. Def not self catering but half board or all inclusive would be great. We enjoy sight seeing, relaxing and a bit of culture, evenings out, but not 18-30 boozy evenings! I have looked at some of the links on here but would appreciate some help or suggestions. Max budget 300 per person. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

Nerja is a lovely place, I go there a couple of times a year and love it, still very Spanish and not too commercialised. The weather this month so far has been great for Januay (parents have been there since 30 Dec) only 4 days of rain and most days the sun has shone and it has been pretty warm.

Thomsonfly currently have really good prices for flights from Bournemouth to Malaga from £61.39 per person, price varies depending on the date. Dates I checked were going out on Sunday 24 Feb returning on Tuesday 4 March.

www.alpharooms.com currently have the hotel Villa Flamenca on a half board basis for £272.63 total price for the room.

Total price for hotel and flights for 2 would be £395.41, pretty good price.

The Villa Flamenca is a nice hotel, friends of ours stayed there last summer and really liked it. They were there at the same time as hubby and I so we were in the hotel a few times, looked nice enough. There room was a decent size with a good sized balcony. They really enjoyed the food and couldn't fault the hotel and said they would go back.

    Hi Engadine

Glad to hear you like Nerja as we have booked to go in May. We have rented an apartment near the old town. Any good tips? We like good food and nice relaxing pubs.

    Hi Liames

I love Nerja, as I said I go a couple of times a year, parents have an apartment so really easy to go whenever.

Whereabouts is the apartment you have rented? Our apartment is in the old town, that is the nicest part of town.

It is a very Spanish place, it is not over run with British pubs, there are some but not every second one like you get in other Spanish resorts. There are a lot of nice tapas bars as well as a lot of other restaurants serving a variety of international food. There are a couple of really nice Italians, Mexican (was expensive, food and service were poor), Indian, Chinese, Greek to name a few!

There are half a dozen beaches, Burriana is the largest and busiest, access to this beach is down a very very steep hill. It's ok on the way down but they way back up is the hard bit! Some of the other beaches are small but with so many you will always find a space.

Shopping is pretty good, Nerja is not full of tourist tat shops like a lot of other resorts. There are some lovely shops.

Any of the bars and restaurants around the Balcon de Europa do tend to be a bit more expensive as this is a very popular area of the town particularly at night.

There is a nice Irish Bar, just down a lane from the Balcon de Europa, it has a great terrace that over looks the sea and a couple of beaches.

Hope this is of use, if you need any more info let me know

Agreed Villa Flamenca is a good hotel in a lovely resort.
BUT the balconies in the original hotel are very small - you must have visited the 'annexe' which is the newer part.
We emailed ahead and requested a room in the annexe - which we were allocated.
Do a Google on the hotel name and add 'review' to get some opinions from others on any hotel.

Portland-Direct do packages to Villa Flamenca - it might be cheaper that way.

    Yes they do!

Having stayed at both the Villa Flamenca and the Nerja Club,I preferred the latter.
I know it`s slightly further out, but I thought the rooms and the food were far better than the VF.

Another up and coming place not far from Nerja is Torrox.
