Hi,
I recently started a new job, started ok but then I had a few day's off sick. Since then I have been verbally bullied by my boss. I am a confident person usually, with lots of friends and i've never been in this situation before. I'm male and the majority of the company is male. I have been called a liar about having time off, my boss has told me he want's me sacked and my other boss emailed a colleague asking her to help (gommo) out, referring to me.
I'm on minimum wage and travelling 4hrs a day to get to and from work as I am a dedicated employee. I've looked for work elsewhere but I can't seem to get another job. What can I do? I have children and we rely on my small income to get by. I't really knocked my confidence at work and I dread every day.

I am so sorry you have to endure that treatment everytime you go to work
What type of company is it? small, big?
It shouldn't matter, but if it is a larger company they have procedures in place for this sort of behaviour. Has your boss got a boss, maybe you could go to them and tell them how your feeling.0 -
Dont just sit back and let this happen please, i thought my boss was bullying me, turned out to be a bit of banter in the end, im sure alot more people will be along soon with more advise, but please just look for another job as soon as you can and get away!
I know how you feel having small children.
Good luck

Dreading going to work to that extent is no way to live.
Short term - you could ring ACAS for advice. If you are correct in your perception you need to know how to conduct yourself.
In the longer term keep looking for work - it's not easy but there will be a job for you sooner or later.
Keep hopeful - I was very unhappy with my employer last year, petty bullying - felt like climbing a mountain going to work each day. Out of the blue 2 of us were made redundant and after applying for endless jobs I'm in another now and much happier. There is light at the end of the tunnel, there are many on here who have been through/are going through what you are suffering.
Finally, post this on the Employment board - there are some experts over there.0 -
...and do join the relevant Union...google the TUC website to find out which one it is.
Good luck.0 -

Small company, my boss does have a boss but they've worked closely together for many years. I need a new job but I've applied for over 20 jobs in the last week and I only have 2 interviews. Hope these accept me.0 -

People bully others to make themselves feel better about their own life. Prehaps a good things to say, which is non-threatening is something on the lines of "What makes you say/think/act/ like that?" Asking this question may help the person actually think about what he is saying, and also he then needs to justify/answer to his actions.
I really hope things will improve for you. Its awful being in this situation.
Good luck

A 10% interview success rate is fairly good as is two interviews within a week. Good luck with them and keep applying for more. You mustn't give up on the momentum.
I've always been an extremely confident (more than on here!) person and yet I to managed to find myself in a position where I was being bullied by my boss. I stood up for myself to some extent, but looking back, I should have told him to shove it up his **** ages before I actually did. I eventually told him to stick it and found another job.
Sometimes it's not worth fighting, especially if the job hasn't anything going for it that other jobs wouldn't have too. My next job was so much better with a larger company where I felt valued and respected........a massive step in the right direction. There are companies (and bosses) out there who do value their staff.
Keep looking. Grit you teeth and have a chat with the CAB if you can in the meantime as they are extremely helpful with employment problems."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
