Remedies for Toilets

Figured that someone might know the answer to this one. We moved into a new studio flat about 5 months ago and I noticed that there is a lot of scale in the toilet bowl, like someone turned the water off and let it dry. Tried a few things to get rid of it as I like the look of a clean toilet and it bugs me endlessly, any ideas?

I don't know as I've never tried it.....but someone told me once that cola poured down the toilet and left for a while might help :)

  • It's true and it works. It's a bit grim, but try and remove as much water as possible from the bowl. Then chuck in a cheap 2 litre bottle of cola and leave it overnight if possible.

I had this issue in a student flat I lived in years ago. I removed it the hard way. i wore some gloves, got a sharp knife and scraped it off!!!

How do you get most of the water out? Scoop it out or turn the water off to it?

If you could turn the water off to it, that would be ideal. I assume one good flush and it would be empty.

Otherwise, do what I did and scoop it out using a ladle. I also vaguely remember that some denture cleaning tablets dropped down there can help, but I would wait to hear someone else verify that as I could be making it up!

A lot of water can be pushed down and past the ubend with your loo brush by vigorous pumping. After that it is a case of ladling out I'm afraid.

You could also try white vinegar - it will remove the limescale too.

Again, pump out the water with a loo brush and add vinegar - you could use cheap brown vinegar or non brewed condiment - basically anything acidic like fizzy drinks, citrus juice or vinegar will work!!
If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Not very os but good old limescale toilet cleaner works really well......leave it several hrs ,then with toilet brush scrub at it ...it will come off easily and then flush
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Use a pair of rubber gloves and a pumice stone........it will remove any scale there is on the pan, then flush the toilet, use a toilet brush to push as much water as you can out of the loo, bale as much of the resy out as you can, then use a limescale remover, leave as long as possible before flushing the toilet...............do not use bleach, all you will do is bleach the limescale, its that you need to get rid of.........i gets stained by whatever goes dwn the loo.

My DD had a similar problem with a toilet in a house they bought, pumice worked wonders in that.
