Has anyone had any experience of these guys?

A friend recommended them as a good place to make small share investments.

Yeah, Ive just registered and used them for my first transaction last week. I think they're pretty good, for the first month after you register w/them there's no commission on buying or selling.

Tried them a few years ago but, for various reasons - including their somewhat ponderous methods of funding the account and their system's apparent inability to allow me to deal in certain stocks/warrants , didn't think their service was up to much so closed my account and went elsewhere - Comdirect (now Squaregain) and Ample.

Of course, they might have got their act together by now but .....

I just registered and funded my account fairly easily and quickly via debit card (Worldpay). Also used the commission free to buy three US stocks that I couldn't buy via Halifax sharedealing. Otherwise it was only going to be £7 per deal. They are recommended by Martin for price etc. Minimum deal is £50, or it was for the US stocks anyway.
  • Used them for some years now. They are one the cheapest brokers around (£7 per transaction), although website is not the best during the buying phase. Excellent service. Never had a problem with them.

IWeb are probably the next best, and charge £10 per transaction. Good service, but have had to kick their !!!!!! once. :D

Comdirect are also good - NOTE: name is changing to Squaredeal this Thursday (7th July). They charge £12.50 per transaction, and provide live share prices via their Trader Matrix software which is one of the best in my personal view (although start prices are sometimes wrong !!). Service is generally good, although had to kick them too !! (admittedly, they gave me 3 free trades as compensation for their mistake).

Overall, they're all very good, and just as important, darn CHEAP ! These are all 'nominee' services, i.e. you send your share certificates to them (if you have any), and they transfer them to an electronic version, which means you can trade to the second, and not have to worry about sending certificates in time. You can transfer them to another 'nominee' service provider if they let you down, so no risk.

    Hope that helps.

I'm very new to the game.

Every month I stick £200 of my sallary into an ISA as longterm savings.

I'm quite interested in on occasion putting some of this money into shares.

Can anyone reccomend any good recources for learning to buy/sell shares and keeping an eye on markets.

So far i'm using Martins tips, the Guardians money site and Reuters share info.

    Thanks for the replys all.
