payment on day

made payment on due date in cash at Barclays for Barclaycard credit card yet incurred late payment charges. Is this right? Because I have now lost the 0% interest option on this card .

  • It takes a few days for the payment to go through and show up on your account wether you pay by cash, debit card or cheque. My barclaycard has the latest date when you have to pay by at the bank printed on the statement.I would ring them and explain they may be sympathetic.

And the banks still use old style banking days. If you are in after 4pm, it will count as the next day.

Isn't that when you are paying into your/somebody else's current account & not when paying into a credit card account? Credit card holders are warned on the statement to allow 3-4 days for payment at a bank to get to the credit card account.

Halifax have penalised us for late payment when the Christmas post was slow. They agreed to half the charge of the late payment. Then when I phoned back they said they couldn't reduce the charge. Nice!

The Barclaycard business is separate from Barclays Bank, all the banks' cc operations are different divisions as it were, so you do need to allow the 3 days to get into the credit card account. I have noticed with some (HBOS for example) that when I transfer from a HBOS bank account to one of their CCs on line it gets credited the next day.

If you phone Barclays they may well waive the charges if you explain your circumstances.

It's too late this time but for future reference, if you register your details on Barclaycard's website and pay online with your debit card, your account is settled the same day.

As others have said, it's worth a phone call to Barclaycard to see whether the bank will consider reinstating your 0% offer

    Very best

Interestingly, I saw in another thread that if you pay a HSBC credit card from one of their bank accounts the payment - while it may take up to three working days to become available on your account - credits immediately for interest purposes.

  • I've just received my Capital One credit card statement & they require 7 days for processing of payments no matter what option is chosen by the customer. Options are:- telephone, internet, bank or post.

LLoyds cards can be paid ON the DUE DATE over the counter at a LLoyds branch as that's what I do each month and have never incurred any charges.
  • That happened to me too. I wrote a letter to them. The full £12 was taken off. But it's happened again recently, another letter to them...I wonder if I'll get the £12 knocked off this time! I'm waiting!
