Renting Contract...now in temporary contract

After completing the 6 months rent contract, I understand that I am now in a temporary contract where I can just give 1 months notice before I want to leave or will be given 2 months notice if the LL wants me to move out. I intend to stay for a longer than 6 months but when I moved in, the letting agency told me that the contract will automatically continued after the first 6 months and I don't need to do anything. It is now well past the 6 months contract and the letting agent did not contact me about signing a new 6 months contract.

I am wondering if the letting agent usually just follow up with a new contract after the original one is completed or not. I plan to stay in the same place for at least a year more and I'm wondering what should I do.

if you definitely want to stay another year, i would go to the agent and ask to sign a new 12 months contract - that is the only way you can get the security you want.
