I have a freeview box and am after watching one freeview channel while recording another - can a dvd recorder do this, if so what am i looking for. I would prefer the recording to be on dvd rather than hard drive so that i can watch it on a laptop.
Any thoughts?

What so you want to do, confused? <Devils advocate mode on> Buy a laptop - Write a DVD - Record one freeview prog AND watch another freeview prog at the same time??
The prog may need to be stored to hard drive first, you cannot have the DVD writer recording "live off air" for a couple of hrs, so its stored first then your option to transfer to DVD.
Can you watch AND record two different freeviews channels at the same time, then no I dont think so.
Watch on a laptop? Yes, most new laptop have a DVD player.but check the DVD disc type required before you rush out and buy your first 100, ie DVD -R
or DVD +R

If you already have a freeview box (or a digital tv), then you can buy a dvd recorder which also has a digital tuner. You can then record (direct to dvd if you wish) from freeview station the dvd recorder is set to, and separately watch the freeview station your tv/set top box is set to.
Hope this makes sense.0 -

Sounds like a good plan

As expresso suggested, get a humax 9200 pvr, and use the usb link to transfer the video to the laptop hd direct, no disks to worry about, much nicer to use.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Richer Sounds has a Panasonic DVD recorder with Freeview for around £150. The Humax is the very best idea though.0
