Win XP Pro Startup

Hello all

I'm having some trouble since wiping HDD and reinstalling Win XP Pro. Sometimes all my startup programs will run as they should, but frequently they will not and I have to restart the PC or find each .exe and run it manually. Usually one of the Norton programs runs but frequently that is the only one to startup!

These are the programs which are supposed to run at startup:
  1. Norton Internet Security Professional
  2. Norton Antivirus
  3. Microsoft Antispyware
  4. Sound Icon (for adjusting volume!)
  5. MSN Messenger
  6. Yahoo Messenger

The above must be in the Startup registry because the only two items listed in Startup Folder are
  • Microsoft Office
  • Adobe Reader Speed Launch

I have a P3 800 Mhz with 192 MB SDRAM in case this helps !

Hope someone can help with this! :D Thanks in advance

Funnily enough, I'm having the same problem (sort of), and I haven't wiped my HDD.

The difference is that with mine the System Tray icons aren't appearing all the time, but the programs are actually running. I checked this by pressing CTRL + ALT + Del once (twice restarts the system) and the running processes window shows the programs to be running. Have you tried checking this?

I haven't had time to investigate this yet and if the programs are running anyway, it's only a minor annoyance.

I'm running XP Home Edition on a Dell 3000 with 512MB SDRAM and Intel Celeron Processor.

It sounds as though there is a conflict with one or mabe more programs as the system starts. I notice that you have msn and Yahoo both starting and that maybe where the problem lies. disable one or both from auto starting on boot and see if that olves the problem.

Start --> Run --> type msconfig --> OK --> startup and then uncheck the items you want to remove from start up, click on Apply and then restart the system
    Welcome, rogerramjet.
