I've been saying for the past couple of years that I will enrol my eldest with them, but I can't afford it so I haven't got round to it yet! My niece does it, though, and apparently she really enjoys it and seems to be learning a lot.

It is alot of money., but how much would a tutor be? £20 an hour? this is £45 for a month.
Think I will get some work books and do somework at home, with Kumon the children get set homework of about 15-30mins a day, and see how this goes.
It`s a time comittment aswell as money, and to be honest £45 would be hard to find, and what about when the youngest was old enough to go.?April Grocery challange £175

Hi, both my children do the Kumon Maths programme. My son (12) has been doing it 5 years and daughter (7) for 3 years. I have been very pleased with both the structure of the work and the results, however, you do need to bear in mind that it is a long term programme - a lot of parents start a month before the SATs and expect miracles.
The children are expected to complete 10-15 minutes work per day and this does help with developing their concentration. The children do kick up occasionally when reminded to do Kumon but they both see the results and are motivated further by earning "Kumon pounds" to spend in the class shop once a month.
A fellow Kumon parent recently gave up Kumon for a month due to financial costs and decided to try and do 15 minutes maths with her children each day. She found this very hard (even though the children were used to working each day) and has now come back to Kumon.
In the past my children have also done the English programme but we had to cut back due to the expense and decided that maths was probably the best option for them as I'm hopeless with numbers and my OH doesn't have time to sit with them.
Kumon classes have regular open days so you can always go along and find out more about it even if you decide later not to sign up.
Hope this helps. It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.0 -
I think it depends on a how old your child / children are and bwhat are they like in school.
My OH little sister does it but it doesn't seem to be helping, shes 13/14 and been with Kumon for a year(or so). Shes also very disruptice in school and doesn't enjoy 'book' (or any other kind really) learning. (It probley doesn't help shes become very chav like and her 'friends' are little tearaways).
But hey, go for an open day and see, or see if you can see a class 'in action' near you before you make up your mindI remember when this was just a little website! :money:0 -
My children attended Kumon last year we moved and after a six month break I rejoined them today. Initially there was a £15 enrolment fee each but I asked did they need to do the enrolment test as they had completed it before -they said no. I assumed therefore I did not pay. The fees are one month in advance but they want me to pay £30 in enrolment fees plus £90 for Feb then £90 for March which adds up to £210. In the last class we only paid monthly in advance by s/o.
I only just saved money on my mobile and landline to be able to justify paying it so really not happy.
Does anyone have experience of Kumon and payments.0 -
I couldn't say whether the £30 is correct or not but my own two children also attend Kumon and we only pay £90.00 in advance. It seems a bit steep  to ask for both Feb & March and, if it were me, I would probably ask to see their policy on fee payment or ask other parents at the same class whether they are required to do the same. Alternatively, look on the Kumon website to see if there has been any recent amendments to how they charge.0

My kids go to kumon and yes it is £90 per month, we had to have an assessment but maybe they didnt give you another one as they knew roughly where your child is at..
By the way are finding that Kumon is helping?MFWB

I think it is good but I object to paying for something I don't get. I saw the point initially as a woman came to our home and tested my children -so it took time but this time I really don't see the reason for an enrollment fee when all they did was fill in a form?-and it does say a one-off fee on the original paperwork.
But then I refuse to pay gym joining fees as well !0
